Hitting Lessons Provide Consistent Practice

Once you’ve learned how to hit the shots and strokes you want, it’s important to practice them properly. This requireshitting with a partner who can control the ball and create match-like situations. If you want to improve your ability to win, you need to practice shots in addition to strokes, and this means taking tennis lessons that help you practice like you play.

The “Muscle Memory” Myth

Hitting hundreds of balls the same way over and over again not only doesn’t help improve your tennis game, it often degrades it. You will never hit 50 cross court forehands in a row during a match, so why practice that way? When you hit for long periods against a ball machine or backboard, you also fatigue your central nervous system and tire your muscles. You then end up hitting tired, late strokes.

Hitting lessons with a coach (vs. working with a backboard or ball machine) include frequent breaks that help you recover – from a cardio and muscular standpoint. A hitting lesson also lets you receive short, deep and wide balls. A qualified hitting partner will be able to place balls where you need, even if the shots you hit aren’t under control. Teaching professionals learn the footwork and ball placement control necessary to chase students’ balls and return them with accuracy, as well as at the right speed.

The Right Partner for Your Hitting Lessons

Instead of standing at the middle of the baseline hitting 100 balls with an inconsistent partner, hire a PlayYourCourt coach who will make you move laterally, forward and backward in a match-like situation. Hitting different types of forehands and backhands from different locations, and adding in serves, volleys and overheads, will help prevent muscle fatigue and build playing skills.

Search PlayYourCourt.com to find a tennis coach near you for hitting lessons.

Have any questions?

Will my lesson be on the course or driving range?
The majority of PlayYourCourse lessons take place on the driving range or short game area and putting green. If you are interested in on-course playing lessons check out the pro’s profiles or give our sales team a call for details. If you do go out on the course we recommend a minimum of 4 hours. There may be an additional fee for on-course lessons.
How do I know I’ll love my coach?
We are so confident in our coaches that we offer a satisfaction guarantee. If we can’t find the perfect instructor for you then we will refund your unused lesson credits.
Can I start with a trial lesson?
Definitely! However, we do recommend going with at least our 6 lesson package to really give you the time you need to work through your swing goals. With our satisfaction guarantee, there is no risk at all, and our package pricing saves you money!
Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely! Each extra golfer is a small additional fee per hour based on the pro’s individual rates. Adding friends is a great way to cut down on your lesson costs.
Will my pro use video analysis in the lesson?
Many of our pros utilize video analysis as an instructional tool in their lessons. Visit each pro's profile to see if it is a service included in their lesson for no additional cost!
How do I get in contact with my instructor?
Once you have booked your lesson package, you will immediately receive your instructor's contact information. The quickest way to schedule your first lesson is to call or text your coach and they'll get back to you asap. If your coach doesn't hear from you they'll reach out within 24 hours.
